Review of Cabiria - Emma S

Going into the movie, I did not expect much from the movie. I have never particularly enjoyed sitting down and watching movies for the analyzation, especially if it had no dialogue. But I have to admit this movie exceeded any and all my standards. For it's time it did more than just tell a viewer a story, but instead gave the viewer their own experience in the story. The camera angles and mise en scene immersed the watcher into the world of Rome and the story of not only Cabiria but also Machiste. I would definitely recommend this movie to people who want to learn more about Rome's history and the history of film-making itself.

  1. You do a nice job of explaining why the movie grabbed your attention despite your low expectations, namely by managing to immerse the audience in the plot through its cinematography. It would have been even better if you had maybe squeezed in an actual example of where the movie successfully does this, e.g., in the dramatic scenes of the volcanic eruption in Sicily or the escape from the temple of Moloch.
In order to do that without running into the 100-word limit, of course, you would have to talk about the movie itself far earlier, maybe by getting rid of the entire second sentence and wordy fillers like "any and all."
